Determining the effective value
With non-linear loads (energy-saving fluorescent lamps, dimmers, speed controllers, switching power supplies, etc.), a pure sinusoidal waveform of the supply voltage can rarely be achieved. This distorted signal can cause measurement errors of up to 50%. Therefore, it is recommended to use TRMS measuring instruments that display active current or voltage.
For measurements on battery, alternator, starter, carburetor, ignition coil, capacitor, etc. (some applications require passive AC or AC + DC current clamps, not included)
